Montevallo Public Library
The Montevallo Public Library is a city-operated public library that has served the Montevallo community since its founding in March 1958. More than a repository of books, the library functions as a community center, arts venue, and gathering space that reflects Montevallo’s broad cultural interests.
History
The Montevallo Public Library was founded in March 1958, established to provide residents of the growing city with access to books, information, and educational resources. Over the decades it has expanded its programming, facilities, and services to meet the evolving needs of the community.
Art Gallery
The library hosts a rotating art gallery that provides exhibition space for local and regional visual artists. Exhibitions change throughout the year and cover a wide range of styles and media, giving residents a regular opportunity to engage with contemporary and traditional visual art at no cost.
Theater Space
The library’s community theater space is one of Montevallo’s most significant cultural assets. The space is used by the Montevallo Main Street Players and other community organizations for theatrical productions, readings, lectures, and public programming. The availability of quality performance space has helped sustain live theater and performing arts in a city that might not otherwise support a dedicated venue.
