Festival of Tulips
Over 120,000 blooming tulips displayed across the American Village campus against replicas of historic American landmarks — a spectacular annual spring event.
The Festival of Tulips at the American Village is one of the most visually spectacular seasonal events in Alabama — a breathtaking display of over 120,000 blooming tulips planted across the 188-acre campus of the American Village, set against the backdrop of replicas of Independence Hall, Washington Hall, and other historic American landmarks.
The Display
Tulips in every shade of red, yellow, purple, white, and pink sweep across the campus grounds in sweeping beds and artful arrangements. The combination of the flowers’ vivid color against the historic architecture creates photographs that draw visitors from across the Southeast. In a good year, when the timing of the bloom aligns with the festival schedule, the effect is extraordinary.
Why It Matters
The American Village campus — ordinarily focused on citizenship education and living history interpretation — becomes a shared seasonal celebration for the entire region. Families, couples, photographers, and gardening enthusiasts all find something to love about the festival.
Visiting
The festival typically runs from late February through mid-March, depending on the progression of the bloom:
- Monday–Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Sunday: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Regular American Village admission applies. Check the American Village website for bloom status updates closer to your visit, as the peak of the display can shift by a week or more depending on the weather.
