The Montevallo Legacy Project
Community-based nonprofit recovering, sharing, and preserving hidden histories and untold stories of Montevallo's past.
Founded in September 2022 and officially adopted by the City of Montevallo, The Montevallo Legacy Project is dedicated to recovering, sharing, preserving, and building appreciation for hidden histories and little-told stories of the town’s past. Key initiatives include the African American Heritage Trail with markers and digital resources, the “Untold Stories of Black Montevallo” blog, and a Memorial Garden commemorating 1889 lynching victims. The project partners with the Equal Justice Initiative.
